OCTOBER 15, 1979

MillerClapperton is founded by Ted Miller and Dave Clapperton as a manufacturer’s representative firm out of Ted’s home in Smyrna, Georgia.

Our first Logo revealed.

Building Relationships

Founders Ted and Dave worked hard to build relationships of trust with architects

We become a specialized installing subcontractor

MillerClapperton has built a solid reputation in the southeastern United States as a reliable source for polished stainless steel, bronze, and specialty aluminum architectural metalwork.

We move into our first office space

In this space, we specialized in providing premium, custom designed architectural metalwork.

We revealed our second logo.

We learn about the fabrication business

We learned what it took to become a national quality fabricator. Ted and Dave also learned about working with General Contractors. Eventually we learn to become our own fabricating installer.

Buckhead Diner Opens

Atlanta, GA | Stainless Steel
Our first major project of significance. The restaurant is still in existence today and is an iconic landmark in Buckhead, Atlanta.

We establish our first Fabrication Facility

We move into a facility that allows us to fabricate MCM (Metal Composite Material) panels for the first time.

We revealed our third logo.

Doug Bruton becomes partner

Doug was highly instrumental in organizing the addition of the fabrication of composite aluminum panels – taking MillerClapperton to the next level in the industry.

We revealed our fourth logo.

We move into a larger Fabrication Facility

Our new facility was nearly 20,000 sq ft. We would be here for the next 8 years. Our first CNC router table was delivered this year.

Home Depot’s Store Support Center (i.e. Corporate Office)

Atlanta, GA | 500K sq ft of MCM panels
Home Depot has consistently used us for every building ever erected on their campus. We’re proud to have been the only wall cladding company to have worked on their campus.

BCIA Terminal 2 Opens in Beijing, China

Beijing, China | MCM panels
MillerClapperton beat out several international teams vying for this project. Our founders visited China several times to work on this deal.

We move into a larger Fabrication Facility

Expanding again, we move to Austell, GA to a facility well over 40,000 SF. Our second CNC router machine was delivered this year.

Rapid ACM is formed

A new e-commerce company, Rapid ACM was created to sell sheets of ACM in simple shapes only. It was the beginning of what would become a highly viable sub-business for MillerClapperton.

We’re a top place to work

MillerClapperton named one of the Atlanta Journal Constitution’s Top Workplaces.

We become a MCM Certified Premium Fabricator

The MCA (Metal Construction Association) enlisted the help of founder Ted Miller to create the MCM Certified Premium Fabricator certification. As such, we became an original member of MCA’s certification program for such fabricators. There are, to date, only a handful of fabricators certified to this level.

2006–2008, 2010

MillerClapperton goes cruising

For a few years, the employees of MillerClapperton were treated to a company cruise. It was the talk of the company for years (and still is!)

We revealed our fifth logo.

Georgia Aquarium

Largest aquarium in the world. The catalyst for the growth around Centennial Park—preceding World of Coke, Center for Civil and Human Rights, Aquarium Hilton Garden Inn, College Football Hall of Fame and numerous restaurants.

Rapid ACM becomes RapidMaterials

In addition to its name changing, RapidMaterials also began taking on additional manufacturers and products.

Ted Miller begins MCM Corner & blogs

Ted begins writing weekly blogs which would appear in Metal Construction Magazine. He also wrote articles which published monthly in a special section entitled “Ted’s MCM Corner.” It became a staple read in the metal construction industry. He would write his blogs up until his passing. He also wrote letters of wisdom for his employees to help them in their career.

Founder Ted Miller passes

Ted lost his courageous battle with cancer. Senior Estimator Scott Stafford recalls his impact on the company, its employees and the industry at large.

Laser scanning

We create a level of customer service that further differentiates us from our competitors—providing a high level of accuracy and quality few could match.

College Football Hall of Fame

MillerClapperton engineered, fabricated and installed the panels on this project’s most prominent and complex structure. We are proud to have played a part in the construction of this iconic addition to Atlanta.

More Manufacturing Equipment Purchased

Our third CNC router machine was delivered in June. The new sheet metal cutting and metal forming equipment was delivered in December.

RapidMaterials.com takes off

We hire on David Trefzger as RapidMaterials manager—an industry expert and eCommerce aficionado who breathes new life into our RapidMaterials sub-brand—selling construction supplies and materials exclusively online.

We open MillerClapperton West

We opened our 2nd fabrication facility in Mesa, AZ, allowing us to truly penetrate the West Coast market for the first time. We also add our fourth CNC router machine here.

We’re a top place to work (again)

MillerClapperton was again named one of the Atlanta Journal Constitution’s Top Workplaces.

We open MillerClapperton Mid-Atlantic and MillerClapperton Midwest

We send a Project Manager for the first time to Virginia to service the Mid-Atlantic region as well as Project Managers to Minnesota to service the Midwest.

We revealed our sixth and current logo.

MillerClapperton is proud to serve as your experts in the wall cladding industry, producing over one million square feet of MCM annually and creating iconic buildings (and relationships) with our customers.
