I once worked for a female owned glass & glazing company, really husband and wife who set the company up 51% and 49% to qualify as a WBE. I was PM on a library project and our bid was $1.1 million and another qualified competitor was $800,000. We were awarded the project solely on WBE requirements. It meant more work for me and was good for our company, but I was PISSED thinking this happens everywhere. How much are we (tax payers) over paying for equality. Qualified is qualified regardless of your sex, race or even religion. There will be true equality in this country only when quota's of any kind are eliminated.

I heard on the radio this morning from a local/syndicated talk show host who was riled-up about the claim that the new International Terminal "came in under budget and on time" that the original construction budget was $640 million and was to be completed and 'open for business' by the end of 2006. I have not vetted this claim, but it sure makes one wonder ... "Where is the truth when claims come from local(or national) politicians whose statements are generally made to make themselves look successful?" As usual, the tax-paying public, if they even care, are left to scramble through all of the misinformation in order to determine if or how their hard-earned tax dollars are being wasted!

Thank You for the Alan Greenspan words, I wish he was still in his old job. Also you have my vote for the 28th amendment, but do you think any of them have the guts to want to leave Washington with out a fight. Thank You for all the good work that you do....Sincerely / SDSsr

Great article Ted. I hear a lot of positive news about the economy, but the commercial construction industry has a way to go before we are back to normal. Hope it's soon!!

The GC and the owner can't complain because they went for the cheap instead of the proper. The system for selecting subs and products is broken. Taking the low bid without proper scope review, inspecton of prior work, credit references and those other items that make a sub responsible.

Not only is a sloppy job but it probably leaks. Then there will be lawyers working on that issue.

Ted,
Great comments and s great analysis of the "old days" of our industry. I may not have been an "HHR" guy, but I was a graduate of the Xerox PSS program with its "programmed learning" concept. Most of those concepts are probably still with me today.
